Learning that You are Pregnant

Any one going through IVf experiences knows that the waiting is excruiting. Build up to the egg retrieval is an anxious yet exciting process. Every day you phone the lab after your eggs have been retrieved (be they your or donor eggs - they are still yours) at least you can check progress and confirm your news for the 5 days following retrieval.
Then when the embryos are put back - you have to wait 12 days to verify whether you are pregnant.
Even surrogates are so anxious during the 2ww.
Share your experiences of awaiting pregnant test results during IVF egg donation or IVF surrogacy.

Medical Aid for Fertility Treatment

This is becoming a really hot and topical issue, not to mention expensive and sensitive point.
Whilst medical aids cover what is considered medical treatment, fertility treatment does not fall into this category.
Yet the ability to procreate is natural and if there is a medical inability to conceive naturally, the only alternative is to consider adoption or fertility treatment. People elect one of these options on personal reasons and as we are all individuals - we certainly have the right to elect just which option is more suited.
How do we go about getting South African medical aids to pay for fertility treatment?
In the UK, I believe government pays for one IVF per year.
Imagine the difference that would make for so many people - if the South African government or medical aids or a commissioned body would pay for one IVF per annum, even one IVF every two years, even contribute half of an IVF cost per annum?
How do we get a movement on this issue? How do we help people who desperately want babies to conceive but cannot because they cant afford fertility treatment?

baby2mom supports and understands the need and emotion around desperately wanting a baby and is committed to helping this cause.

Surrogacy from the Perspective of the IP

There is much documented about surrogacy from the perspective of the surrogate, yet not much about the feelings of the IP.

Please share thoughts and feelings on your experience as an IP:
  • Meeting the surrogate initially
  • What to do to ensure all follows smoothly
  • Signing the contract
  • The adoption process - there is not much noted about this in South Africa, so some personal experience would be great.
  • How you feel with another lady carrying your baby
  • How does the man in the process feel
  • Any thing esle to help feelo IP's would be great
